‘STRONGER DEAL’ COULD BE KEY TO SWAN’S MOVE
Will Hayward is contracted for another four years at Sydney, but he could get a “stronger deal” from Carlton to be a part of an increasingly likely Charlie Curnow trade.
Curnow on Monday visited with Swans coach Dean Cox at club headquarters as a move firms — despite his number one destination preference reportedly being Geelong — with two days remaining in the trade period.
It was initially reported that Hayward, 26, and Sydney teammate Ollie Florent weren’t keen on moving from the Harbour City, but it’s since been said they’ve had their heads turned.
Seven’s Mitch Cleary reports Hayward “spent the weekend coming to terms with a move” as the Blues, who’ve explored a Hayward pursuit in the past, come calling again as Curnow looks likely to depart.
“Hayward has a four-year contract with the Swans, but Carlton had strong interest last year, and he may just get a stronger deal this time around at Princes Park,” Cleary told Seven on Monday night.
Florent has also been “getting his head around (the possibility of) a move”, while midfielder James Rowbottom is “adamant” he’s not going anywhere despite chatting with Collingwood coach Craig McRae in recent days.
Cleary added that future draft picks are “critical” for the Blues, who will this year match a bid for father-son prospect Harry Dean but also have an eye to next year’s draft, where they’ll match an early bid on another father-son prospect in Cody Walker.
Carlton currently holds picks 10 and 22 in the first round of this November’s intake.

OFF-CONTRACT CAT DRAWING INTEREST
Geelong midfielder Ted Clohesy is reportedly attracting interest from three rival clubs who are considering making a play.
According to AFL Media’s Josh Gabelich, Gold Coast — with brother Sam already at the club — is interested, as well as Essendon and West Coast.
The 21-year-old ball-getter still hasn’t been offered another deal with the Cats; being made to wait until after the trade period when clubs have more list clarity.
The Bombers have identified the engine room as an improvement area, with the likes of Will Setterfield and Ben Hobbs still uncontracted at the club for next year.
Meanwhile, the Eagles are said to be canvassing “a range of experienced options” after being granted four extra rookie list spots by the AFL as part of its assistance package.
While Clohesy, who’s consistently starred at VFL level, played a career-best nine senior matches this year, six came as the starting sub as he struggled to truly break into Chris Scott’s premiership-contending outfit.
It comes as fellow Cats depth midfielder George Stevens remains unsigned amid reported interest from the Adelaide Crows.
