Tigers star Jarome Luai says his club and their loyal fanbase have “nothing to worry about” in response to a question around the contract clauses in the gun playmaker’s deal.

Luai just finished the first year of a five-year deal with the Tigers but beyond 2026, the contract isn’t guaranteed.

There is a get-out clause in the deal though which allows the star to opt out of the final three seasons if he wishes.

That means that Luai could potentially become a free agent when the November 1 deadline passes in just a couple of weeks.

You can rest easy for now though Tigers fans as Luai’s preference is to stay put.

“My future is sealed already. I look forward to honouring that,” Luai told Code Sports at Sydney Airport as he and his Samoa teammates prepared to fly out to New Zealand for the Pacific Championships.

However, he warned that the club will have to continue to “do right” by him if he’s to stay a Tiger for the remainder of his deal.

“Maybe every year you’ll be asking me the same thing … But as long as they do right by me and my family, they will have nothing to worry about,” he said.

“I’ve said it before, if they want to talk then we will talk but like I said, if they treat me and family right then they have nothing to worry about.”

The Tigers showed improvement in Luai’s first season at the club.

Breaking a streak of three-straight wooden spoons, the Tigers finished 13th on the ladder.

They were in the finals hunt up until Round 25 before they lost their last three games.
