A 30-year-old woman has died following an early-morning stabbing Sunday in downtown Campbell River, and police have charged a 29-year-old woman with second-degree murder.

Shortly before 2 a.m. on Oct. 12, Campbell River RCMP responded to a report of a possible stabbing in the 1300-block of Dogwood Street in the city’s downtown.

According to police, an office conducting proactive patrols in the downtown core was able to respond to the scene in less than a minute after the call came in. The officer was able to identify and apprehend a 29-year-old suspect as she was leaving the area.

Two other responding officers arrived and began lifesaving measures on the 30-year-old woman who suffered a life-threatening stab wound.

On Sunday evening, second degree murder charges were approved against 29-year-old Pauline Bruce, who remains in police custody.

A multi-jurisdictional investigation continues between Campbell River RCMP’s Major Crime Unit, North Island RCMP Forensics and Campbell River RCMP’s ‘C’ Watch.

Police were able to speak to several witnesses at the scene, however, there were people that left the crime scene area prior to talking to police. Any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police are asked to contact the Campbell River RCMP detachment.
