Sydney’s offer for Charlie Curnow – which reportedly includes two players and two first round draft picks – has been described as “overs”, as a deal for the star Blue heads into the final day of trade.

Curnow had toured the Swans’ facility with coach Dean Cox on Monday night and was left “pretty impressed”, according to Fox Footy’s Ben Dixon.

And now with an apparent trade on the table which includes pick 11, next year’s first round pick, Will Hayward and Ollie Florent, AFL great Gerard Healy believes the Swans have gone too big as talks continue over the likelihood of pick 22 coming back in return.

“Looks overs for me,” Healy said.

“It’s a win (for Carlton).

“They were always going to want overs. (New Blues footy boss) Graham Wright is clearly looking down the track. He’s looking to implement some sort of restructure like he did at Collingwood.

“He’s looking for overs. (Pick) 22 brings it back a little bit in the Swans’ favour.

“I think the Swans should be arguing strongly for 22 simply because right now, Charlie is not going back to Carlton.

“He’s not going back.

“This deal is basically, would appear to be done. Get your 22 and put this deal to bed.”

AFL reporter David Zita said the Blues had “played this well” in terms of getting a deal done for Curnow.

“The way they messaged it … they’ve always left a bit of wriggle room for the right deal to come along,” he said.

“It seems like Sydney, they haven’t really mucked around – they’ve thrown their best punch and it looks like it might be one that lands tomorrow.”

“The sticking point here is the pick that Jack Silvagni is going to net for the Blues as a compensation which is pick 22 … I think that would probably be something Carlton would get a bit upset about and try and negotiate that pick 22 to be a bit of a later pick in the draft.

“That on face value – two picks, two first round picks – and two ready made players, that’s a pretty big deal.”

Bulldogs great Brad Johnson believes the Blues would benefit from the likes of both Hayward and Florent, the latter who has simply fallen out of favour under new coach Cox.

“I think the players are right as well – Hayward is tough. He can provide some spark as well … And Ollie Florent is just out of favour – this is a guy that plays 20+ games a season constantly for your football club and has got some class,” Johnson praised.

“Carlton people might think, ‘oh do we really need a Florent or not?’ I think he’ll be an excellent addition to your footy club if you get him.”

With Healy stating Florent “walks straight into Carlton” as part of their best 22, the question was then raised over a potential conflict of interest given all three players are managed by Robbie D’Orazio.

“That’s one question I couldn’t answer,” Dixon replied.

“You’ve then got players currently in the (Sydney) line up like an (Joel) Amartey, (Logan) McDonald and (Hayden) McLean sitting there going, well where do I sit in the pecking order now if they bring a Charlie Curnow in?,” Johnson added.

“I don’t mind that competition.

“(With Curnow as #1 forward) Amartey and McLean plays the second ruck and can play forward. McDonald may be in for a positional move in 2026 – we wait and see.”

The final day of the 2025 AFL Trade Period will be held tomorrow.
