Let’s take a look at how the major trade situations are looking on deadline day.
Will Merrett become a Hawk?
Zach Merrett wants to become a Hawk but the Bombers need to agree to a trade if that is to happen.
The Hawks last night offered the Bombers their top pick in this year’s draft, which is No.9, as well as their 2026 first-round selection, a future second-round selection and one of No.62 or young midfielder Henry Hustwaite.
But Essendon said no.
It’s even been reported that the Bombers were so unimpressed with the Hawks’ offer that they did not consider it worthy of a response.
Eventually, after hours of silence, Essendon did formally reject the offer.

Oliver’s Giant wish
According to the Herald Sun’s Jon Ralph, the Giants have offered the Demons a 2026 third-round pick for Clayton Oliver and want Melbourne to foot half of his salary through to the end of 2030, which is the length of his contact with Melbourne.
The Demons don’t want Oliver, Oliver doesn’t want to be a Demon, and the triple All-Australian wants to land at the Giants.

Will Swans, Blues agree on Curnow deal?
According to AFL Media’s Cal Twomey, Sydney last night offered Carlton pick 11, its 2026 first-round selection, Will Hayward and Ollie Florent.
In return, the Swans want two-time Coleman Medallist Charlie Curnow and pick 22.
Petracca set to become a Sun
According to 9News’ Tom Morris, the Demons will trade Christian Petracca and picks seven and eight to the Suns and, in return, receive pick 24.
Adding another layer of complexity is Petracca is contracted to Melbourne until the end of 2029, meaning the Suns and Demons need to sort out who pays what over the remaining three years of his Melbourne contract.
