It won’t be Steven Gerrard facing Celtic again.

Gerrard has rejected a Rangers return, despite a lot of noise about the former midfielder coming back to Scotland to try and stop Celtic’s dominance.

In truth, there has been a lot of noise from Ibrox about stopping Celtic, but time and time again, those across the road have fallen flat on their face as the Hoops continue to eat up the trophies.

But why did Gerrard, who is hailed by the Gers fans for winning one trophy out of nine, opt against taking to the Ibrox dugout again? One thing is for sure: what is being said isn’t sitting well with Steve Nicol.

Just like Gerrard, former defender Nicol is a Liverpool legend and one of the greatest players of his generation.

Speaking on ESPN, Nicol stated that Rangers aren’t ‘anywhere close’ to even winning the Premiership title ahead of Celtic.

But Nicol slammed the nonsense that Gerrard didn’t want to come back because ‘the timing isn’t right’, as he stated it’s down to the former Aston Villa boss ‘not being interested.’

“Not really,” responded Nicol on whether he is surprised Gerrard has turned down Rangers. “At the end of the day, when you take on a job, you want to have some tools.

“Right now, Rangers need to win some games. I don’t think Rangers’ squad is anywhere close to even winning the Scottish Premiership. Never mind competing in Europe or anywhere else.

“Does Steven Gerrard really want to go in there right now with a squad that is going to take a lot of time. I don’t think Rangers have a lot of money.

“I don’t believe he really wants another big job. If he did, then he would take this one. He said, ‘the timing is wrong.’ That’s just an excuse for saying, ‘I am not interested.’ Let’s be honest, that’s all it is. The timing isn’t right? What are you talking about?!”

Time for Celtic to run away…

Celtic haven’t started the season well, yet they are unbeaten on the domestic stage and two points behind current leaders, Hearts.

That’s why Celtic are champions of Scotland because, on a bad day, they are still unbeaten, so if Brendan Rodgers gets the team going, then they will run away with it.

All of that can happen after the October international break because there are some huge matches on the horizon.
