Just nowWed 15 Oct 2025 at 2:38am

72′ Offside USA

Folarin Balogun is called offside after trapping the ball and spinning in one motion on a USA attack.

Those have been rare in the second half, it’s been all Socceroos since half time and the USA have looked very shaky, giving the ball away sloppily and resorting to cheap fouls.

It’s almost a mirror image of the first half to be honest.

67′ Free kick Socceroos

Irankunda is a handful, we know that.

And now so does Tanner Tessmann, who runs a great interference play on the Socceroos striker that would have drawn a foul flag in the NFL even, to give away a free kick in a dangerous position.

It is Irankunda who takes the free kick but it’s too high and too far for Bos.

66′ Hrstic goes down

Was he clipped there by McKenzie?

There was contact as Hrstic went chasing the ball towards the byline.

But there’s not a whole lot in it and the referee is not interested.

There was definitely contact though.

63′ Chance Socceroos!

Cam Burgess comes so close to levelling for the Socceroos!

A lovely ball from the left.

He rises to meet it with his head, but the USA clears!

It came after some nice football from the Socceroos down the left, Bos running into space to cross, Irankunda making a nuisance of himself too and getting a shot blocked from the edge of the penalty area.

The good start to the second half continues.

It’s Nestory time

It feels like time to bring on irankunda.

60′ Mass changes for the Socceroos

Fresh legs up front. Lots of them.

Touré, Irankiunda, Hrstic and Yazbek are on.

Ballard, D’Agostino, Boyle and Metcalfe all come off.

13m agoWed 15 Oct 2025 at 2:25am

59′ Boyle is caught offside

The Socceroos are having a really good period here though, forcing the USA into making fouls and turnovers of their own.

This 15 minutes post-half time has been very promising.

And it’s about to get even more promising as the Socceroos are about to make a few changes…

Need more call security

The midfield continually coughing up ball is killing the Aussies.

– Robert

The ball retention has been very poor from the Socceroos.

57′ Chance Socceroos!

Great free kick from Boyle!

Great header from D’Agostino!

And it’s only the fact that a USA defender got up there as well with his head to block that ball’s trajectory that the Socceroos are not celebrating an equaliser.

Great stuff.

Less good from the corner though as the USA clears.

56′ Free kick for Socceroos, Richards booked

The stand-in USA skipper is booked for blocking off Jordan Bos after the livewire midfielder nutmegged the giant USA centreback.

That was far too easy for the USA.

A quickly taken free kick deep inside their own half.

A long ball to Haji Wright, who turns inside, leaves Cam Burgess on his backside, and curls a shot delightfully into the top corner.

Sloppy from the Socceroos.

A neat finish.

USA leads 2-1.

49′ Chance Socceroos!

Freese is almost caught in possession inside his own six yard box!

The USA are trying to pass the ball out from the back and it almost gets them unstuck.

However, the pressure is released by another wild challenge from D’Agostino as he leaves the ground.

That earns him a talking to.

24m agoWed 15 Oct 2025 at 2:15am

47′ Free kick Socceroos in very dangerous position

Real awkward stuff from Nick D’Agostino to win a free kick backing into Richards on the edge of the penalty area.

Who wants this?

Four man wall, a draft excluder too.

It’s Conor Metcalfe who strikes it – straight into the wall.

Good start to the half for the Socceroos.

25m agoWed 15 Oct 2025 at 2:13am

46′ CHANCE SOCCEROOS!

So close for the Socceroos!

Jordy Bos does brilliantly down the left, linking up well with Martin Boyle.

He squares the ball to the back post where Balard hammers the ball into the defence, before the follow up shot from Metcalfe is wide.

46′ Second half underway

We’re back underway in the second half, the USA kicking things off in their white shirts.

Popa-ball

Our style under Popa is very difficult to reconcile as a fan wanting the best for Australian football. My word it’s a dire watch of abject negativity, arguably ‘anti-football’, but geez it’s been highly effective results-wise to date, and results are what gain media attention and so wider exposure for the code… I don’t know what to think of it – support or oppose this style?!

43m agoWed 15 Oct 2025 at 1:55amHT: Socceroos and USA level at the break(Getty Images)

Well, that’s got a bit heated thanks to some frankly astonishing refereeing decisions.

There may be a bit of frustration by the USA players as well, who has dominated this game to the tune of having 70 per cent possession, six shots to one and more than double the number of passes than the Aussies, as well as having their skipper and talisman removed from the field through injury.

However, it is 1-1 at the break.

Jordan Bos’ goal against the run of play the opener, before Haji Wright poked home to level 15 minutes or so later.

45+1′ More tempers flaring!(Getty Images)

This referee needs to get control of the game.

Another rough challenge from Aiden O’Neill sees Sands again taken down.

Chris Richards as skipper flies over and the referee is surrounded by players who just have no idea whether he’s going to blow his whistle or not.

He does give a free kick to the USA this time but the crowd is livid.

45m agoWed 15 Oct 2025 at 1:53am44′ Tempers are flaring(Getty Images)

D’Agostino is very, very lucky for me.

The follow through on James Sands is very, very nasty.

A challenge from behind that the referee said was fine has resulted in Sands on the ground.

(Getty Images)

And now tempers are flaring.

That could very easily be given as a red card by another referee.

That one doesn’t even warrant a free kick.

He’s not having a particularly good game, the referee.
