Ruby Rose will not stand by and let her friend’s name be dragged through the mud.
On Monday, the model and Batwoman star wrote a series of posts on Threads in defense of Taylor Swift, whose recently been accused of becoming more conservative and aligning herself with MAGA views.
“As someone who has spent many nights discussing the world, social injustice and life, with The Show Girl herself. I refuse to say her name in the same sentence as the hate group, Wackadoodles, are conspiring to attach her to,” Rose wrote of her friend at the start of the thread.
“Given her public position against Trump, and his against her. If you are falling for the propaganda ‘Trad wife’ ‘X,y,z’ claims, you are most definitely walking into the biggest man made, rage bait, black hole,” she continued. “Stop it. It’s not true, and it’s incredibly stupid. It’s also embarrassing and hurtful to see energy put into this. Keep that energy and let’s take it where it’s necessary and needed.”
But Rose wasn’t done there, engaging with fans in the comments who also felt the need to stand up for Swift. When one Thread user said they were currently arguing with someone over Swift’s right to be a billionaire, and whether she donates money, the actor responded: “She used to scroll go fund me like a social media app. Clicking ‘reach their donation’ like the ‘like’ button.”
Following her engagement to NFL player Travis Kelce and the release of her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, Swift has faced criticism from the left that her brand is becoming increasingly aligned with conservative, “tradwife” values. In part, that’s because several song on her new album, including “Wi$h Li$t,” feature lyrics that seem to glorify the kind of married, domestic life that conservatives have been rallying around recently.
“I know it’s just two to three lines of the entire album, but Taylor has given conservatives exactly the kind of catnip they’ve been craving,” Lauren Tousignant wrote in an article for Jezebel. “I can already hear far-right commentators screaming, ‘See, Charlie Kirk was right, Taylor Swift is submitting to her husband, proving childless cat ladies are happier when they accept marriage.'”
Others, like Rose, point to the singer’s public track record, which includes endorsing Kamala Harris for president in 2024 and condemning the Trump campaign for using AI to fabricate an endorsement.
“I’m voting for [Kamala Harris] because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos,” Swift wrote in 2024. “I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate [Tim Walz], who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades.”
