A day after her son Alon was released from Hamas captivity, Idit Ohel wrote in a Facebook post: “Where to begin? Maybe from the end, the most important thing – Aloni is home! Aloni is smiling, funny, beautiful, pure. A new chapter has opened, complex – but full of hope. A chapter for rebuilding. Alon is a strong tree, rooted, and the most Israeli there is. He is planted so strongly that no one can break him. I have a powerful son. Alon, you survived. You won. Thank you to the beautiful Israeli society, to the international community and especially to the German, Serbian and American. Alon asked me to convey this: ‘I want to say thank you to the people of Israel, to everyone who was there for me – that I would return home alive.'”
