York Regional Police say a home invasion in Vaughan early Wednesday morning ended with a serious collision and one suspect in custody, while others remain at large.
Officers were called to the area of Pine Valley Drive and Teston Road around 4:18 a.m. for reports of a home invasion involving at least three suspects. Police tell CityNews that the suspects fled the residence in the homeowner’s vehicle. No one inside the home was injured.
A short time later, the stolen vehicle was involved in a single‑car crash near Teston Road and Cityview Boulevard. The vehicle caught fire following the collision, police say.
Police say the driver, identified as a male youth, was arrested at the scene and transported to a Toronto hospital with serious leg injuries. Multiple other occupants of the vehicle fled on foot and have not been located.
K9 units were deployed in the area, but investigators believe the remaining suspects managed to escape despite a large police response.
Investigators believe all suspects have left the area, but noted that residents can expect a continued police presence throughout the morning. York Regional Police have not released suspect descriptions.
Police were on scene for several hours collecting evidence at both Pine Valley Drive/Teston Road and Teston Road/Cityview Boulevard. Roads in the area have reopened.
