The Gist

Though Prince William and Kate Middleton have been a couple for nearly all of their adult life, they’re still flirtatious with one another.

Both the Prince and Princess of Wales made cheeky jabs at one another during a surprise visit to Northern Ireland on October 14.

This was the couple’s first joint visit to the nation since October 2022, three years ago.

Prince William and Kate Middleton have been a couple for nearly a quarter century, but as a surprise appearance in Northern Ireland yesterday proves, they still like to flirt with one another.

On October 14, the Prince and Princess of Wales undertook a series of engagements in the nation, where at one point they attempted to make potato apple bread at Long Meadow Cider, an award-winning, family-run farm in County Armagh. Kate—who has expressed an affinity for baking in the past—and William wore aprons to roll out the flour and potato, peeling a basket of apples to help make the bread.

“If we are peeling every apple, you are going to have to start helping,” William cheekily said about halfway through his basket, The Daily Mail reported. “We’ll be here a while.”

When Kate appeared to lag behind, William teased her, saying to his wife of 14 years, “Do keep up.”

As he rolled out the dough and looked down at his very rectangular-looking effort, William said, “A circle? Now, you tell me! If you look this way, it looks like a circle. This is a new variety!”

The Princess of Wales—as she is known to do—nailed the technique the first time, causing William to exclaim of her perfectly round circle of dough, “How does that look like a circle, when this is a rectangle?”

Elsewhere in the visit, the royal couple observed the apple cider vinegar production process, also seeing how apples are pressed and bottled onsite into cider. “We tried this at home with a hand press,” Kate said. “It was quite good fun with the children. It was very messy.”

Taking a drink of apple cider vinegar, the future queen said, “I like that. I haven’t taken it as a shot like this before, but I love to put it [on] salads and things like that.”

Just as William teased her earlier in the visit, later in the day while picking apples, Kate—who filled up her basket much quicker than her husband—joked, “Don’t drop the fruit, William.”

Elsewhere on Tuesday, William and Kate visited the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service’s new Learning and Development College and stopped by Mallon Farm, a flax farm in County Tyrone. In a more tender moment during the day, Kate was photographed affectionately placing her hand on William’s back as the Prince and Princess of Wales prepared to take a ride in a fire truck. Their trip yesterday was the Prince and Princess of Wales’s first joint visit to Northern Ireland since October 2022.
