IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir issued a day order marking two years since the October 7 massacre, which will be commemorated today at state memorial ceremonies on Mount Herzl. “At dawn, our borders were breached, the war crossed the threshold of our homes and sowed fire, death and bereavement in the fields of the Negev,” Zamir said. “From this devastation, the people of Israel rose, in their greatness and strength united and went out to defend their home. On October 7, the IDF failed in its mission to protect the state and its citizens. We are investigating and will continue to investigate the events of that day and the entire war, with reliability, transparency and professionalism. We owe this to the hostages, the murdered, the fallen, the wounded and the entire State of Israel.”
