A 37-year-old Saskatoon man is facing criminal charges after a police chase and crash in the city on Wednesday morning.

Police say it began around 8:45 a.m. CST when callers reported a black car being driven erratically in the wrong lanes and through red lights. An officer tried to stop it in the City Park neighbourhood, on the 900 block of Seventh Avenue North, but the driver took off speeding, police said in a news release.

The chase ended around 9:30 a.m. when the driver hit a truck on the University Bridge. The crash was severe enough that it shut down traffic in both directions for much of the morning.
