One of Canada’s most wanted fugitives has been arrested in Surrey, B.C., Montreal police announced Wednesday.

Pierry Philogène, 39, was wanted for first-degree murder in connection with the 2021 death of Charles-Olivier Boucher Savard in Montreal.

Philogène was arrested by Metro Vancouver Transit Police Tuesday after a short foot chase, according to a Transit Police news release. He remains in custody and will be repatriated to Montreal in the coming days to appear in court.

Transit Police say they also found fraudulent identification in Philogène’s possession and say he was charged with obstruction of a peace officer and possession of identity documents without lawful excuse.

Montreal and Quebec police have been actively searching for Philogène since a June 12 operation targeting organized crime.

Police arrested nearly a dozen people alleged to be important members of Montreal’s Mafia and other gangs during that operation, including Leonardo Rizzuto, the son of the late crime boss Vito Rizzuto.
