Police have confirmed they have received reports of electoral fraud linked to the local body elections in Auckland.

Allegations emerged Thursday that voting papers had been stolen from letterboxes in the South Auckland suburb of Papatoetoe, with voters being told how to vote inside polling booths and in public places.

Chief electoral officer Dale Ofsoske confirmed that complaints had been made and one had been passed onto police.

Ofsoske said the complaint would not delay the result of Saturday’s official Auckland Council election results.

“Everything carries on and proceeds as normal,” Ofsoke said.

If there was a prosecution, the election management company would be guided by any court decision, he said.

Police say enquiries are in the very early stages and remain ongoing.
