European leaders are scrambling for a seat at the negotiating table again after Vladimir Putin’s latest contact with Donald Trump threatened to unravel their efforts to intensify pressure on Russia over the war in Ukraine.

The announcement came as Trump prepares to meet in Washington on Friday with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, who’s seeking Tomahawk cruise missiles from the US to help his forces strike deeper into Russia.
