A guest staying at a luxurious resort in Far North Queensland has filmed a dangerous intruder inside the hotel’s swimming pool. Lying on the bottom of the lagoon-style pool is a juvenile crocodile.
“I don’t want to alarm anyone, but there is a crocodile in the Sheraton pool,” Lisa Keller said in her TikTok video, filmed on Saturday afternoon.
In a second clip, other holidaymakers continue to sunbake on lounge chairs, seemingly unbothered by the uninvited guest.
A hotel staff member confirmed to Yahoo News there was currently a baby crocodile in the two-hectare swimming pool, and guests were being advised to stay out of the water while the reptile was being relocated.
The Sheraton Mirage in Port Douglas is a four-star hotel, with rooms starting at around $400 a night and reaching up to $1,900 per night.
It’s not the first time a baby crocodile has taken itself for a dip in a swimming pool.
Two years ago, in the aftermath of Cyclone Jasper, a family in FNQ found a little croc in their backyard pool.
Despite its small size – even smaller than the crocodile at the Sheraton – wildlife experts warned it could still do serious damage.
“I can tell you from experience that even a crocodile at that size can shred a finger,” WIRES volunteer Gary Pattinson told Yahoo News Australia at the time. “That’s a really young one but they’ve still got an extremely quick and powerful bite.”
