Prime Minister Mark Carney made a whistle stop in Kitchener on Friday to wet his whistle.

Carney was in southern Ontario on Friday and in the afternoon, stopped by the Schwaben Club in Breslau, just outside of Kitchener, to take part in Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest.

He used the wooden mallet to tap a keg at the fest hall and then had a mug of beer while talking to local politicians.

K-W Oktoberfest has seen prime ministers before. In 2016, Justin Trudeau was at the opening ceremonies and tapped the keg. He also attended in 2023 but did not tap the keg that year.

A year earlier in 2015, Stephen Harper attended the K-W Oktoberfest parade, although was not in the parade because there was a federal election underway at the time.

This year, the keg was tapped by Canadian musician Steven Page. Former Canadian Football League player and now general manager of the Toronto Argonauts Michael Pinball Clemons was the parade marshal.
