Catherine Connolly says her campaign is the beginning of a movement to shape a different type of republic.

The presidential candidate was speaking on the canvass in Maddens Cafe in Tralee this afternoon.

The Galway TD says she is heartened by the support of left aligned parties, as well as independents and others.

The latest poll has Catherine Connolly 18 points clear of Heather Humphreys in the race to the Áras.

Ms Connolly says her campaign shows parties zoning in on similarities, cherishing differences and aiming for a new direction.
