10.20am Wake up jet-lagged in Sydney from a 14-hour flight from Dubai and start the day with a meal from the hotel buffet, not my typical breakfast. I have a beetroot, ginger and lemon juice, an omelette with spinach and onion, and toasted sourdough on the side. I love banana bread, so I have half a piece with peanut butter and strawberries on top, and a small bowl of granola with almond milk.
1pm We’re invited to my mum’s best friend’s house. She makes incredible mouloukhiye, which is a typical Lebanese dish made up of Jew’s mallow [herb], rice and chicken, with a vinegar-onion sauce.
3pm Green tea. I have never tried coffee.
4pm I get sugar cravings, so I grab some strawberries from the fridge, then sneak in a chocolate-dipped hazelnut bite.
9.15pm Dinner with friends at [Sydney French restaurant] Hubert. Roasted marrow for collagen, and I was in the mood for meat, so finished it off with steak frites. No dessert for me tonight!
Dr Joanna McMillan says:
Top marks for … Your Lebanese lunch – Jew’s mallow is a leafy green that is rich in fibre, beta-carotene and several vitamins and minerals. Combined with the protein from the chicken and additional vegies, this is a truly nutritious stew.
