Today, as we celebrate World Statistics Day 2025, we take this opportunity to share some facts about our work and organisation.
Statistics were always a cornerstone of the European project, starting with the creation of the statistics division of the Coal and Steel Community (ESCS) in 1952 and later with our predecessor, the Statistical Office of the European Communities (1958-1992). Since then, we have expanded our statistical coverage and diversified the channels to reach users. Our mission, however, remains ever evolving: to provide high-quality statistics and data on Europe. Our commitment reflects the dedication of all our colleagues, who work tirelessly to make numbers and data available and easily accessible, which helps everyone understand the world around them.
Based in Luxembourg, Eurostat works closely with national statistical authorities of the EU and EFTA countries through the European Statistical System (ESS). This partnership aims to deliver reliable and comparable statistics at the EU level.
Between September 2024 and 2025, we published 675 data releases. Our database is updated every day, offering almost 6.4 million data values in 6 529 primary tables.
Additionally, our social media presence helps bring EU statistics closer to users of all ages, engaging more than 784 000 followers across platforms. We are active on Facebook, X, Instagram, and LinkedIn, where we share our news releases, invite users to participate in surveys and quizzes and offer the opportunity to give us direct feedback.
Our YouTube channel showcases all our videos, from shorts to longer visual presentations. Watch our newly released short video for a quick introduction to our work.
