The province is spending millions on improving provincial parks, with a major investment going into a staple of Halifax Harbour.

The government says $450,000 will go towards improvements to McNabs Island Provincial Park.

That money will be used to upgrade the Garrison Pier and enhance access to the island.

“These infrastructure improvements will make a real difference for visitors to our coastal parks,” Barbara Adams, MLA for Eastern Passage, said. “Better pier access to McNabs Island and enhanced wayfinding at Rainbow Haven Beach will help more families discover and enjoy these incredible waterfront destinations.”

Another $60,000 will be spent at Rainbow Haven Beach Provincial Park, financing a coastal study and new entrance signage.

The funding is part of the government’s $13.8 million provincial parks capital plan.

The province says more than one million people visited provincial parks in 2024. Officials say the milestone highlights the importance of parks to both recreation and rural tourism.

Dollar Lake Provincial Park is also receiving $1.6 million in upgrades to dozens of campsites, including the addition of water and electrical services.

In total, 40 parks are slated for improvements.
