Barrett popped the question days before the All Blacks embark on their Grand Slam tour which kicks off in Chicago against Ireland next Sunday.
The midfielder last year signed a deal with New Zealand Rugby through to the 2028 season which included a sabbatical in Ireland where he played for Leinster before returning for the All Blacks season.
“I didn’t know what to expect,” Barrett said, reflecting on his Irish stint.
“No one before me had done it for quite some time. Dan [Carter] was the last but no one had gone for an Irish or Leinster experience so I was walking out into deep water at the start.
“It exceeded my expectations and what I wanted to get out of it.”
