A one-year-old girl has been found safe following an Amber Alert, but police say the man accused of abducting her is now wanted in connection with a fatal shooting in Brampton, Ont.
Ontario Provincial Police issued the alert around 5 p.m., but it was cancelled approximately two hours later.
“I can now confirm that the child has been located by police safe and sound. Police are with the child, but the suspect remains outstanding,” Const. Mandeep Khatra told reporters on Tuesday.
“We believe the child was dropped off to family members,” he added. Khatra declined to say where the child was located.
The 38-year-old suspect is now wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of a woman, police say.
Police said they were called to a parking lot in the area of Queen Street and Airport Road at about 2 p.m. The victim, suffering from gunshot wounds, was treated by paramedics and pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect fled the scene in a vehicle with the child inside, he said.
Suspect believed to be in Niagara Region: police
The vehicle that the suspect is driving is a Black 2024 model Nissan Kick with Quebec licence plate FRV4520, he added.
The suspect is described as five foot nine, 175 pounds, clean shaven with brown hair. He was last seen wearing a blue hoodie and blue jeans, carrying a black crossbody bag.
Khatra said the suspect is considered armed and dangerous. If anyone sees him, they are urged to call 911 immediately.
According to police in Niagara Region, the suspect is believed to be in the Crystal Beach area of Fort Erie.
People in the area of Prospect Point and Ridgeway Road are being asked to shelter in place.
Police said residents should lock all windows and doors and not open their doors for strangers.
