The Geelong Cup meeting has been rescheduled to Thursday.

The news comes after Geelong’s premier race day was postponed due to high winds.

Racing Victoria stewards announced the decision just after 3pm (AEDT) following consultation with emergency services, the Bureau of Meteorology, jockeys and the club.

Earlier in the day, the meeting was delayed indefinitely as wind gusts swept across the course, forcing patrons in marquees to be moved inside for shelter.

RV steward Corie Waller said wind conditions were not likely to improve until much later in the day and, even then, stewards could not be certain that conditions would improve enough to run the meeting.

RV Head of Racing Paul Bloodworth confirmed the remaining races on the card will shift to Thursday.

Exact details are still to be confirmed but the first race – Race 4 on the original program – will be run at 2:25pm (AEDT), with the final of six events to be run at 5:30pm.

The Group 3 Geelong Cup and Listed Geelong Classic are among the races yet to be completed.
