Gardai want to question them about a number of burglaries in counties Tipperary, Limerick and Wexford that occurred in August.

They were being driven by a 35-year-old woman who was also detained in the intelligence led operation as they were about to board an afternoon ferry to Cherbourg in France.

The duo fled from HMP Springhill in Buckinghamshire with another Irish criminal associate at around 6pm on Monday, June 23 and travelled back to Ireland where it is suspected they embarked on a burglary crimewave in at least three counties.

Gardai want to question them about a number of burglaries in counties Tipperary, Limerick and Wexford that occurred in August – just weeks after they went on-the-run.

All are originally from Limerick but have spent a lot of time in the Midlands area of England and other parts of the UK where they have a major criminal network as well as in Ireland and continental Europe.

The 24-year-old and 35-year-old men who were detained at the port were arrested under organised crime legislation namely facilitating the abilities of a criminal organisation.

The younger man cannot be named for legal reasons because he is facing robbery related charges before Tullamore Circuit Court where he was brought under warrant on Tuesday afternoon and remanded in custody.

However we can reveal that the other arrested man is serial criminal Daniel Harty who is being quizzed at a garda station in Co Tipperary for multiple offences under organised crime legislation including the gang’s alleged crimewave in August.

After escaping from the English open prison, Harty was previously arrested in Ireland in Trim, Co Meath, on July 9 last but was then released from garda custody.

The third man who escaped with the duo arrested at Dublin Port is Jason MacDonagh.

All three were serving sentences for their roles in a crime spree in which they stole sterling £300,000 worth of jewellery and cash from homes across the UK in 2023 in 50 home raids.

Harty received a 12-year sentence for his role in the burglaries.

After their escape English police described the criminals as having links to Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Bristol, the West Midlands, Leicestershire, Leeds and Bradford.

Thames Valley Police warned the public not to approach the men, but anyone with information has been asked to contact police or make an online report.

France the country where the arrested trio were due to travel to has seen a large increase in activity by organised Irish gangs involved in burglary as well as trade and confidence scams.

“There is no doubt that the two male individuals arrested on Monday would be well capable of embarking in that kind of activity if they got to France and they have Irish criminal associates there,” a source explained.

Gardai announced details of the arrests yesterday in a statement.

“As part of Operation Thor, Gardaí conducted an intelligence led operation in Dublin yesterday, Monday 20th October 2025 as part of ongoing investigations targeting an organised crime group suspected to be involved in burglaries nationwide,” An Garda Siochana said.

The development comes as gardai in the North West continue to question three suspects under organised crime legislation after their alleged gang used Airbnb’s in the west of the country as a base to carry out dozens of residential burglaries in rural areas.

A total of six people have been arrested as part of that investigation.
