Looking for Blue Jays tickets for the World Series? Don’t get scammed. A Toronto fan recounts their experience being scammed trying to buy tickets on Facebook.

As thousands of fans tried to find Blue Jays tickets for the World Series Tuesday morning, one fan is reminding others to be careful not to get scammed.

“I just wanted to go by myself because I’m such a massive Jays fan,” said Taylor Belford, of Toronto.

Belford told CTV News she was scammed when trying to buy a single ticket through a Facebook group for Game 6 of the American League Championship Series between the Jays and the Seattle Mariners.

She said a person on Facebook claimed they were unable to make it to the game but would sell the ticket at its face value of $150.

The $150 ticket in the 200 Level seemed like a bargain, but the seller claimed they couldn’t go and didn’t want the seat to be wasted.

“It was someone that said they couldn’t go and who said they really didn’t care about the money,” said Belford.

After Belford e-transferred the money, the person said he couldn’t separate a pair of tickets, and he asked her to send another $150 to secure the other ticket.

When Belford said she would rather have a refund, the person stopped communicating with her and she realized she had been scammed.

“I just lost that money and I don’t want others to go through that so be careful,” said Belford.

Tickets are now selling for much higher than face value on Ticketmaster and secondary seller websites.
