Tesla Inc. Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk said that Samsung Electronics Co. is taking a bigger role in manufacturing the carmaker’s chips, signaling that the South Korean company is making inroads in a market dominated by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.
Musk told investors on a conference call that Samsung will share manufacturing duties for the company’s current-generation artificial intelligence chip, the AI5. That’s something he’d previously indicated would be produced by TSMC, the largest provider of made-to-order semiconductors.
