The ex-Ibrox coach has issued a staunch defence of the German’s appointment

Alex Rae is convinced Rangers fans WILL get fully behind new boss Danny Rohl.
And the ex-Gers coach has hit out at claims the German will turn out to be Russell Martin 2.0.
Ex-Sheffield Wednesday boss Rohl was finally appointed to the Ibrox hotseat on Monday after a drawn-out two-week managerial hunt.
Rohl initially pulled out of the running after talks with Steven Gerrard and Kevin Muscat collapsed – before performing a U-turn at the weekend to take over at Govan.
The ex-Bayern Munich No2 arrives with an impressive coaching pedigree but has limited senior managerial experience having spent just two years as Owls boss.
And while he wasn’t the top choice of Light Blues legions, Rae believes the 36-year-old will have the backing from the stands as he prepares to make his dugout bow in Brann.
He told Clyde 1 Superscoreboard: “Listen, everyone is going to have their own opinion. Having spoken to a few people today, I think the important thing is to get behind this guy.
“Obviously he has taken up the role. The hierarchy was pretty much saying they were really impressed. Even when he ruled himself out, they continued to discuss with him along that process because of the noises that he had made.
“I think most Rangers fans will give this guy a fair crack at it. I heard one or two remarks today saying he was a ‘Russell Martin mark two’.
“It’s absolutely ridiculous. This guy has come in with a clean slate. Did a decent job with his last job. It’s not as if he’s coming in here on the back of a relegation.
“So it’s a totally different situation and I think most Rangers fans will unite behind him and he needs to get a tune out of the team. It all starts tomorrow night in Brann.”
