While all of Canada was loving George Springer’s home run for the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday night, others just south of the border had a different reaction.

The Blue Jays were able to pull off a late-game comeback on Monday to eliminate the Seattle Mariners in Game 7 of the ALCS. It was one of the biggest wins in franchise history, as it will send the Jays to the World Series for the first time since 1993.

While there was plenty of celebration throughout Toronto and the country as a whole, it was a very difficult loss for the Mariners, who remain the only team in the MLB to have never played in a World Series.

The disappointment was summed up well by the Mariners radio broadcast team, as they sounded quite devastated when calling Springer’s home run in the seventh inning.

“Here comes the pitch from Bazardo. Swung on, that is hit high, deep left field, and it is…gone,” said longtime Mariners radio announcer Rick Rizzs. “George Springer, three-run home run. Blue Jays lead 4-3.”

The mellow tone is certainly understandable, as the Mariners appeared to be in control of this game, giving the Blue Jays very few opportunities to put runs on the board prior to Springer’s home run.

It was a completely different call from Blue Jays announcers, as Sportsnet’s Dan Shulman couldn’t contain his excitement following the massive swing from Springer.

“Swing and a fly ball to left field. Back goes Arozarena… she’s GONE,” Shulman shouted.

What made Shulman’s call even better was that both he and Buck Martinez were spotted pumping their fists as the ball left the field.

Blue Jays fans will hope to hear some more great calls from Shulman and Martinez over the next week, with the Jays and the LA Dodgers set to duke it out for the World Series beginning on Friday.
