Germany should finally get the top job at the European Central Bank when Christine Lagarde’s term as president ends in late 2027, according to a former economic adviser to Chancellor Angela Merkel.

“I think it would be time, but it’s complicated,” Lars-Hendrik Roeller told Bloomberg Television on Thursday at the Berlin Global Dialogue. “It’s usually also a package deal with other jobs. I think the other big jobs in Europe are not on the line.”
