York Regional Police say they are investigating after one person was shot in the driveway of a Newmarket home that has been targeted by gunfire once before.

The shooting happened shortly after 4:30 a.m. in the area of Bathurst Street and Mulock Drive.

Officers arrived to find one victim suffering from serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

“The suspect vehicle fled the scene immediately after the shots were fired,” York Regional Police Staff Sergeant Anderson told reporters at the scene on Thursday morning.

“This is the second time the residence has been struck by gunfire and we are treating this as a targeted incident.”

She said officers are still working to determine the relationship between the victim and the residents of the home.

There is a heavy police presence in the area this morning as investigators canvass the area for witnesses and collect evidence.
