Saudi side Al Hilal are actively exploring a potential deal for Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak, a source told ESPN.
The Saudi Pro League club has gathered financial details and discussed Isak internally with new head coach Simone Inzaghi, though no formal approach has been made.
“Inzaghi is in favour of a move for Isak,” the source told ESPN, “but there is an acceptance that prising the 25-year-old away from Europe would be complicated.”
Isak’s agent Gonzalo Gaitan had already hinted that a decision on the striker’s future could be imminent.
“We are indeed studying and analysing all options, and we may be close to finalising the next step for the player,” Gaitan told Arriyadiyah.
Reports this week also revealed that Isak is demanding £300,000-a-week to remain at Newcastle, a significant increase from his current £120,000 salary.
“Isak and his representatives have made his demands clear,” talkSPORT reported. “The Swedish star is reportedly seeking £300,000-a-week.”
Such a figure would breach the club’s current wage structure, and possibly even force Newcastle to sell the player if he refuses to play under a lower salary.
Amid the speculation, a photo surfaced showing Isak training alone at Newcastle’s facility on Tuesday. Supporters interpreted the session as a potential “hold-in” while contract talks continue.
