An Air New Zealand flight has landed safely in Sydney after suffering a technical issue while in the air.

Passengers were notified of the issues after the Air New Zealand plane reportedly suffered hydraulic and steering issues while flying over the Tasman Sea.

“NZ221 from Christchurch to Sydney reported a technical issue while in flight,” Air New Zealand Chief Safety and Risk Officer Nathan McGraw said in a statement.

“Emergency services met the aircraft on arrival as a precaution.

“The aircraft landed safely, and our engineering team will now carry out inspections to ensure the aircraft is safe to return to service.”

The plane arrived in Sydney at around 9am and was met by emergency vehicles on the tarmac.
