Mohamed Salah has set tongues wagging after he deleted references to Liverpool on his X account following the Reds’ 5-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt. The Egyptian was benched by Arne Slot for the second Champions League match in a row, having also been left out of the Dutchman’s starting XI for last month’s trip to Galatasaray.
Liverpool lined up in a 4-4-2 formation without Salah, as Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike started together upfront for the first time.
Meanwhile, Federico Chiesa was introduced ahead of Salah when Isak was withdrawn injured at half-time after suffering with a groin complaint.

The Egypt international was brought on in the 74th minute in place of Ekitike, minutes after the Reds had scored their fifth and final goal.
But despite being on the pitch for just 16 minutes, he still registered more shots than any other player on the pitch with his three efforts on goal the joint-highest return along with Ekitike.
Failing to trouble the scoresheet, Salah faced criticism for opting to go it alone with one chance rather than squaring the ball to Florian Wirtz for a simple tap-in into an open net.
And he has faced increasing scrutiny in recent weeks with his position in Slot’s side called into question by a number of leading pundits following a below-par start to the season.
The forward has returned three goals and three assists from 12 appearances, but has at times found himself on the fringes of matches while also being guilty of uncharacteristically missing a number of big chances in recent outings.

The scrutiny Salah has faced only grew after Liverpool lost four games in a row for the first time since 2014.
And following the Reds’ latest outing, the 33-year-old made a number of chances to his X profile that did not go unnoticed with supporters.
Salah removed any reference of Liverpool from his bio, after it had previously read ‘Footballer for Liverpool FC‘.
He also changed both his profile picture and header image on the social media platform.
The forward’s profile picture was previously himself holding the Premier League trophy from Liverpool’s 2025/26 home kit launch earlier this summer. Meanwhile, his header image was Salah holding aloft the silverware on the Reds’ open top bus parade back in May following their title triumph.
But he now has no header picture, and has replaced his profile picture with one of him on holiday with his two daughters.

Slot had admitted it was a difficult decision to bench Salah when speaking to TNT Sports ahead of kick-off in Germany.
“The first answer is always yes, [it was a difficult decision to make],” he said. “But that is also to do with Mo and all the players I have.
“Every time I select a team, it’s always difficult because I have so many good players. That’s also the reason why I use these players.
“I liked the way we ended the game against United. Mainly the second half. Created a lot of chances.
“And Ryan is out, so that means we have to restructure our midfield a little bit as well – defensively and offensively. So all together with the way Frankfurt usually plays, we decided to start like this.
“But as always, I have players who start the game and I have players who can impact the game off the bench and that is [the case] today as well.”
While Salah was left out of Liverpool’s starting XI against Frankfurt, he will be pushing for a recall away at Brentford on Saturday with Slot expected to have to make at least two changes following injuries to Isak and Jeremie Frimpong.
