NEA Director-General William D. Magwood, IV addresses the Steering Committee for Nuclear Energy members
The NEA convened the biannual Steering Committee for Nuclear Energy meeting on 22-23 October 2025 in Paris, France. Chaired by Dr Marta Žiaková, Chair of the Slovak Nuclear Regulatory Authority, the meeting addressed the ongoing and planned activities and the budget of the Agency.
To mark the committee’s 150th meeting, a special session was organised to reflect on key NEA achievements since its foundation. Senior leaders from NEA’s past, including former Director-General Luis Echávarri, participated in the reflections.

Delegates also had a chance to discuss the role of the NEA in the new nuclear area, exchanging views on the impact of artificial intelligence and the potential of nuclear energy to foster energy access and development.
The policy briefing on 23 October was dedicated to the topic of application of advanced recycling and used fuel treatment. The discussion focused on national policies in member countries, the outlook for industry, applications beyond energy production and considerations for radioactive waste management.
The next Steering Committee for Nuclear Energy meeting will take place in April 2026.
