BC Ferries cancelled a slew of sailings between Vancouver and Vancouver Island on Friday morning due to what it calls “severe weather” in the forecast.

In a notice around 8 a.m., BC Ferries said six sailings between Swartz Bay and Tsawwassen had been cancelled, while four between Duke Point and Tsawwassen had also been cancelled to due “Environment Canada’s severe weather forecast for high winds in the Strait of Georgia.”

The six sailings cancelled between Swartz Bay and Tsawwassen as of 8:15 a.m. Friday, Oct. 24 are:

8 a.m. departing Swartz Bay

9 a.m. departing Tsawwassen

9 a.m. departing Swartz Bay

10 a.m. departing Tsawwassen

11 a.m. departing Tsawwassen

11 a.m. departing Swartz Bay

The four sailings cancelled between Duke Point and Tsawwassen as of Friday morning are:

10:15 a.m. departing Tsawwassen

10:15 a.m. departing Duke Point

12:45 p.m. departing Tsawwassen

12:45 p.m. departing Duke Point

Anyone who had a reservation on a cancelled sailing will be contacted by the BC Ferries customer service centre, according to the company.

Customers will be told if they can be fit on an alternate sailing Friday, or if their booking must be cancelled. If your booking is cancelled, you will receive a refund, says the company.

“We know you have important places to be. We are currently monitoring the weather conditions with the goal of getting you underway as soon as it’s safe to do so,” said BC Ferries in its 8 a.m. notice.

“If conditions do not improve, additional sailings may need to be cancelled and we will let you know if that happens.”

Four sailings between Shingle Spit (Hornby Island) and Gravelly Bay (Denman Island East) were also cancelled Friday morning due to wind.

The four sailings were:

7:30 a.m. departing Shingle Spit

7:45 a.m. departing Gravelly Bay

8 a.m. departing Shingle Spit

8:20 a.m. departing Gravelly Bay
