The funeral of popular local schoolteacher Seamus Quinn from Derry will take place this Monday 27th October.

Mr Quinn’s sudden passing has brought deep sadness to his family, friends, colleagues, and pupils.

His remains were found in Inishowen on Wednesday after the PSNI and Gardai issued an urgent missing persons appeal for the public’s help in locating the 63-year-old father of five.

Mr Quinn, who taught Spanish at Loreto Secondary School in Letterkenny, was a dedicated teacher who brought fun and good humour to both the staffroom and the classroom.

“Seamus was an exceptional teacher and a really supportive colleague to all. He was a man who had time for everyone and he will be dearly missed. He leaves behind a legacy of academic excellence and kindness,” said a tribute from the school.

Loreto Letterkenny is closed today 24th October, 2025 as a mark of respect to their dear colleague, teacher and friend.

A tribute from Crana College in Buncrana, where Mr Quinn previously taught, said: “Seamus was the kind of teacher and colleague who made an immediate and lasting impression. His kindness, good humour, and warm welcome were felt by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.”

He was the beloved husband of Jacqueline and loving father of Caitlín, Seamus, Mícheál, Roisín and Diarmuid. Dear son of the late James and Sheila. Dear Brother of Gerard, Dermot, Aileen, Oonagh and the late Siobhan.

Seamus’s remains will repose at home from 3pm on Friday 24th October. The family have requested that the house will be private from 10pm until 12 noon each day of the wake.

Funeral from his home, 18 Mansefield Grove, on Monday 27th October at 9:20am to St Patrick’s Church, Pennyburn for Requiem Mass at 10:00am.
