Kilbirnie mosque suspends activities as police probe bomb threat

  • October 25, 2025

The Federation of the Islamic Associations of New Zealand (Fianz) advocacy chairman Abdur Razzaq told the Herald the mosque regularly receives threats.

“This type of threat has happened before. In each case, the Police has taken them very seriously.”

Razzaq said the police response had been amazing.

“Police have increased their patrol of Kilbirnie Masjid. A very senior Police official [is] overseeing this case.”

Nureddin Abdurahman, a Southern Ward councillor for Wellington City Council, said he had received an email from FIANZ informing him of the threat.

“We are taking necessary precautions.”

Police told the Herald there is no immediate known threat to the community.
