If you grew up watching WWE in the 1990s, many of the wrestlers you used to watch are sadly now dead.

That’s also the case if you watched wrestling in the 1980s or 2000s, if we’re being honest.

It’s a sad reality, as Hulk Hogan joined a long list of wrestlers that died at a relatively young age.

But Hogan, whose real name was Terry Bollea, lived a long life compared to many of his peers. He was 71.

As John Oliver pointed out in 2019, the percentage of early deaths among WWE wrestlers is way higher than in other pro sports leagues, like the NFL.

Many wrestlers who starred in the 1990s, back when it was known as the WWF (World Wrestling Federation), died tragically. Drug overdoses and heart attacks were unfortunately not uncommon for many of them.

Of the 43 participants at Wrestlemania VI, held at the SkyDome in Toronto in 1990, more than half (24) have died. Just six of them lived to see their 70th birthday.

That list includes The Ultimate Warrior, who died from a heart attack in 2014 at the age of 54. Andre the Giant also died from a heart attack in 1993, at age 46.

“Macho Man” Randy Savage died in 2011 at age 58, also following a heart attack.

Other Wrestlemania VI wrestlers that are now dead include “Ravishing” Rick Rude (age 40), Big Boss Man (41), Earthquake (42), Mr. Perfect (44), “Rowdy” Roddy Piper (61), and Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart (63).

The list of Wrestlemania VI participants who have died (age at death in parentheses) is shockingly lengthy:

“Ravishing” Rick Rude (40)
Big Boss Man (41)
Earthquake (42)
Miss Elizabeth (42)
Mr. Perfect (44)
Dino Bravo (44)
Andre the Giant (46)
Hercules (47)
Sherri Martel (49)
Ultimate Warrior (54)
Randy “Macho Man” Savage (58)
“Rowdy” Roddy Piper (61)
Sapphire (61)
Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart (63)
Bad News Brown (63)
The Genius (68)
Dusty Rhodes (69)
Nikolai Volkoff (70)
Hulk Hogan (71)
Bobby “The Brain” Heenan (72)
Virgil (72)
“Superfly” Jimmy Snuka (73)
Mr. Fuji (82)

There are sadly many more WWE stars from the 1990s who are no longer with us.

That includes Owen Hart, who died in the ring in 1999 after falling from the rafters. He was just 34.

Both members of the Legion of Doom, Hawk (46) and Animal (60), have passed away. So did Yokozuna, in 2000, at the age of 34.

Chyna was only 46 when she died due to a mix of drugs and alcohol.

We have also lost Razor Ramon, at the age of 63, in 2022.

Here is a list of other notable 1990s WWE stars who have died:

Crash Holly (32)
Yokozuna (34)
Owen Hart (34)
“The British Bulldog” Davey Boy Smith (39)
Bam Bam Bigelow (45)
