Roy Keane has launched a scathing attack on Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis after the sacking of Ange Postecoglou.

The former Celtic manager was handed the Forest job in September but lasted just 39 days after failing to win any of his eight games in charge.

Marinakis ruthlessly fired Ange just 18 minutes after full-time as Forest lost 3-0 to Chelsea at home in the Premier League last weekend.

Ex-Forest and Celtic midfielder Keane worked under Marinakis briefly at the club when he was assistant manager to Martin O’Neill.

Former Hoops boss O’Neill was in charge for only five months in 2019 and was sacked 18 minutes before Marinakis appointed his replacement.

Keane has now blasted Marinakis on The Overlap’s Stick to Football podcast and says Postecoglou was treated ‘like something on the end of your shoe.’

Keane said: “He walked onto the pitch last year (to confront ex-boss Nuno Espirito Santo). So he’s brought what happens in Greece, we see that all the time.

“But he’s brought them traits to the Premier League, walking on the pitch, making statements about referees, sacking and treating managers like something on the end of your shoe.

“Would you want to work for somebody like that? Somebody says the other day: ‘Forest job, it’s up, there will be loads of people queuing up for it.’ No, not the top guys. Top guys wouldn’t want to work with that guy.”

Martin O’Neill describes his brutal Forest dismissal

O’Neill, of course, is a Forest legend having won the European Cup twice with the club as a player. But he wasn’t treated like a hero in 2019.

Speaking on talkSPORT this week about his dismissal in the June of that year, O’Neill confirmed Marinakis did not sack him face-to-face and had announced the new boss while the Celtic legend was still in his office.

O’Neill shared: “I can laugh about it now, but Marinakis himself personally didn’t sack me – he allowed the chief executive and the director of football [to do it], the former swimming instructor from Athens.

“They sacked me at the time – that’s fine.

“I’m still in my office 24 minutes later when they announced the new manager. Just allow me a bit of time to get out of the office.”
