Rising star Christo Popov’s dream run on home soil came to an end in the final, as an on song Anders Antonsen proved to good for the Frenchman. Antonsen held off the challenge from the Frenchman to claim a 21-12, 21-19 victory.

Popov rose to new heights here, becoming the first Frenchman to reach the final of the tournament.

Chasing his own piece of history, Antonsen set out to spoil the French party, producing some impressive badminton to gain the early advantage after scoring four consecutive points.

The Dane held a six-point advantage (11-4) at the break before extending his lead by nine points.

Popov reduced the deficit before Antonsen went on a five-point run to get within a game point. The Frenchman added three to the scoresheet before Antonsen struck the decisive blow to go 1-0 up.

Buoyed by the enthusiastic home support, Popov found some momentum in the second game, taking a narrow 6-4 lead.

Antonsen levelled the scores again before the local hero came out on top in an incredible 69-shot rally for a slight edge, only for Antonsen to score five straight points for a 13-10 advantage.

Popov put up a valiant fight to get back into the contest, levelling the scores on 16-16 before the Dane got his nose in front again.

Antonsen held his nerve despite a fierce fightback effort by Popov to claim his second title of the year, adding to the Indonesia Open crown from June.
