A man has been charged with murder after a woman died from stab wounds in an alleged family violence attack in a tourist town in WA.

Police allege the 56-year-old man had an argument with the 58-year-old woman at a home on Frederick St in Broome on Friday night before stabbing her several times.

Emergency services arrived about 7.40pm and found the woman with serious stab wounds.

She was rushed to Broome Hospital but succumbed to her injuries the following day.

“Police believe the incident is family violence related,” WA Police said in a statement.

The man was arrested nearby and taken into custody on Friday night.

He was initially charged with aggravated grievous bodily harm, but the charge was upgraded to murder following the woman’s death.

He is due to appear before Perth Magistrates Court on Sunday.
