Sydney Sweeney finally clears up what happened between her and Glen Powell amid the Anyone But You drama.
The Christy actress said that the narrative between them was caused by the media. “The press did it to themselves,” she told Variety. She also recounted that the two’s chemistry was natural. “There was no leaning in, per se. Truly the tabloids and journalists just created it and kept going. Even if we were just standing next to each other, it was ‘They’re standing two inches apart!’ “
“Glen and I genuinely care for each other and have a love and respect for one another,” she added. “I love being with him. And I think people just truly saw a really beautiful pairing.”

Sweeney’s comments comes months after Glen Powell’s ex Gigi Paris explained why she broke up with the actor. She recounted on the Too Much podcast that the only time she visited the movie’s film set was “just to look him in the eye and break up with him” and said that she was “not allowed anywhere near” Anyone But You‘s production.
She said that it was dangerous for him to play into. “Where are you when you just need to stand up and say, ‘No, I would never cheat on my girlfriend. I wouldn’t do that,’ ” she said. “That’s all that needed to be said. And that wasn’t said. … Never once.”
Powell responded to the comments in a GQ interview. “I will always have nothing but love for her and respect for her,” he said. “Everybody’s always going to have their own narrative on things and all that. And she’s welcome to it. Relationships are really hard. And when two people break up, they each go to their own brunch and they will each tell their own narrative.”
Both Sweeney and Powell admitted that they were playing into the fliratiousness of the movie during the press tour of Anyone But You. “They want it,” she told Variety of the rumors in an August 2023 interview. “It’s fun to give it to ’em.” Powell explained his side of the story to The New York Times in April 2024, “Sydney and I have a ton of fun together, and we have a ton of effortless chemistry. That’s people wanting what’s on the screen off the screen, and sometimes you just have to lean into it a bit — and it worked wonderfully. Sydney is very smart.”
