Three teenagers have been charged with murder in Cheetham Hill

Three teenagers have been charged with murder following the death of a man in Cheetham Hill.

Vernard Murray, 26, died following an alleged stabbing last Thursday (October 23).

Emergency services attended Cardinal Street at 2.25pm following reports of a disturbance.

The stabbing is alleged to have happened moments after a car crash which is understood to have followed a chase.

Greater Manchester Police launched an investigation into the incident.

Three teenage males have now been charged with murder in connection to the probe, a spokesperson for the force said today (Tuesday, October 28).

Lee Williams, 19, of Manchester (11/08/2006); and John Harte, 18, of Manchester (08/01/2007) are two of those charged.

A 17-year-old boy from Salford has also been charged with murder but cannot be named for legal reasons.

All three suspects will appear at Manchester Magistrates’ Court today (Tuesday, October 28).

Police said a fourth man who was arrested has been released on bail with conditions.

Detectives said the investigation remains ongoing, with the public urged to get in touch with any further information about what happened.

A GMP spokesperson said: “If you have any information about the incident, please contact police via 101 or our Live Chat at gmp.police.uk, quoting log 1923 of 23/10/25.

“This includes any CCTV, doorbell, or dashcam footage from around the area. Information can also be uploaded to GMP’s Major Incident Public Portal

“Alternatively, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.”

Mr Murray was named in tributes posted on social media, including from his sister Tammy, prior to formal identification being completed.

She said: “Forever 26 my boy until the wheels come off my best friend… best brother I could have ever wished and hope for life was so full with you in it.”

Commenting on the Manchester Evening News’ Facebook page, Gerrard Leonie wrote: “R.I.P Vernard you’ll be missed can’t believe you’ve been took away fly high.”

Angela Clawson posted: “RIP to a lovely young man everyone guna miss u bro good night god bless.”
