Frustration is beginning to mount early on in J.T. Miller tenure as captain of the New York Rangers, with the club sitting dead last in the Eastern Conference.
The New York Rangers might only be ten games into the 2025-26 season, but vibes aren’t too high at the moment in The Big Apple as the club looks to avoid missing out on the Stanley Cup Playoffs in back-to-back years for the first time since 2018 and 2019.
Granted, it’s early on in the season and the Rangers still have 72 games to go, but following last night’s loss to the Calgary Flames, who have the worst record in the National Hockey League, New York, led by former Vancouver Canuck J.T. Miller, dropped to last in the Eastern Conference with a 3-5-2 record and just 22 goals scored.
Frustrations mounting early on in J.T. Miller’s tenure as New York Rangers captain
After the game last night, New York Rangers captain J.T. Miller was extremely blunt and expressed his frustration with how his team performed against the Calgary Flames, saying that they are in not position to come out flat like they did on Sunday.
“You just can’t be okay with coming out flat. We’re in no position to come out flat. Be in the right mindset, we’re ready to go. We got outplayed again in the first period. It kind of set the tone. Thought we had a good second period. Couple mistakes hurt us. But other than that, we had a good second period, a good third. We’re obviously not getting a ton of bounces offensively, which is more of a reason. There’s no excuses to come up flat. It sucks. This is not fun right now. We need to correct the starts. I think it’s becoming like the trend now, so we need to fix this now, on this trip. I mean, it’s a hard road trip, so we got to be ready to go to start the game.” Miller said according to Mollie Walker of the New York Post.
Miller, who was traded to the New York Rangers in January, isn’t having the start he was hoping to the season as the East Palestine, Ohio native has just two goals in ten games and is starting to draw some heavy criticism from the team’s fanbase.
“Why was he ever named captain again? Has never accomplished anything here and has never been a player known for leadership skills.” @GrushNYC said.
“How about he start playing like a top player?
Lots of explanations but leaders show up on the ice. Not in postgame locker room” @hopefulmetsfan said.
“Comically ridiculous. He did nothing. Will do nothing. Among Drury’s stupidest moves. Wait until the room gets tired of his projective whining. This team is among the worst in the NHL.” @WaltTkaczuk said.
“Blah blah blah. Heard it last game and the games before and last year as well. Stop talking and start doing.” @LeadingOrderSol said.
The New York Rangers will look to turn things around starting tomorrow night as J.T. Miller makes his return to Vancouver against the Canucks. Puck drop is set for just after 7 p.m. PT on Sportsnet 360.
