After a busy fall film festival season, we officially have our first batch of nominations heading into the heat of awards season. The Gotham Film & Media Institute has unveiled the list of nominees for the 35th edition of the Gotham Film Awards, comprising a total of 40 feature films and 25 performances across 10 awards categories. The winners will be announced during the annual ceremony, held this year on Dec. 1 in New York City.
“This year’s nominees celebrate an extraordinary year of cinematic achievement — one defined by bold, original storytelling, festival breakouts, and filmmakers whose independent vision extends across studios and streamers,” Jeffrey Sharp, executive director of the Gotham Film & Media Institute, said in a statement provided to Gold Derby. “This year’s Gotham nominees, and our Gotham Tributes, reflect the year’s most accomplished filmmakers and performers and embody the community that has defined The Gothams for 35 years.”
More from Gold Derby
As anticipated, Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another leads the nomination count with a record six nods, including Best Feature, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Supporting Performance for both Benicio Del Toro and Teyana Taylor and Breakthrough Performer for Chase Infiniti. The film’s dominant performance cements its status as the early Oscar frontrunner, although star Leonardo DiCaprio notably didn’t make the cut for Best Lead Performance (the Gothams acting categories are non-gendered).

‘Marty Supreme’
Other notable absences from the list of nominations include Josh Safdie’s Marty Supreme starring Timothée Chalamet and Bradley Cooper’s Is This Thing On? starring Will Arnett and Laura Dern, both of which premiered to much acclaim during the final week of the New York Film Festival. Sources close to those contenders tell Gold Derby that neither movie was ready to screen in time for the nominating deadline and thus weren’t eligible for consideration.
Among the eligible contenders, Chloé Zhao’s film festival favorite Hamnet picked up nods for Best Feature and Best Lead Performance for star Jessie Buckley, but missed out on Best Director and Best Supporting Actor for Paul Mescal. Meanwhile, Bugonia was nominated for Best Feature, but neither Emma Stone nor Jesse Plemons were recognized for their performances. Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value went overlooked in the Best Feature and Best Director races, but picked up Best Supporting Actor nods for Stellan Skarsgård and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas. And Guillermo del Toro’s resurgent Frankenstein received a nomination for Jacob Elordi’s supporting turn as Frankenstein’s creature, but was omitted from Best Feature and Best Director contention.

Rose Byrne in ‘If I Had Legs I’d Kick You’A24
Several under the radar contenders scored a moment in the spotlight, starting with Mary Bronstein’s harrowing If I Had Legs, I’d Kick You starring Rose Byrne. The film was the second most-nominated contender at this year’s Gothams with a total of four nominations, including Best Feature, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Lead Performance for Byrne, who is currently holding onto the No. 5 spot on Gold Derby’s Best Actress leaderboard.
Meanwhile, Netflix’s quietly powerful Train Dreams picked up nods for Best Feature and Best Adapted Screenplay and Richard Linklater’s Blue Moon saw stars Ethan Hawke and Andrew Scott recognized for Best Lead Performance and Best Supporting Performance, respectively. Linklater’s other 2025 awards contender, Nouvelle Vague, was also recognized in Best International Feature alongside Jafar Panahi’s Cannes-winning It Was Just an Accident and Park Chan-wook’s No Other Choice — both of which received three nominations apiece.
Finally, relative newcomer The Testament of Ann Lee made its voice heard with nominations for Best Feature and Best Lead Performance for Amanda Seyfried. Acquired by Searchlight last month, Mona Fastvold’s period drama/musical has been gaining a firm foothold in multiple races.
