New York City voters are likely to select a new mayor on Nov. 4, in what is shaping up to be the city’s most competitive general election race in over a decade. The turnout for the first three days of early voting is already far higher than the entire early tally for the 2021 race. It’s also garnered interest from well-known political figures like Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Senator Bernie Sanders and President Donald Trump.

Three candidates are running to replace Mayor Eric Adams, who ended his reelection bid in September (though he remains on the ballot): There’s the red beret wearing Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa. There’s Andrew Cuomo, the ex-New York governor plotting his political comeback as an independent after losing in the Democratic primary. And there’s Zohran Mamdani, the 34-year-old Queens assemblyman who has catapulted from relative obscurity to the Democratic nominee.
