His daughter Leah has told Sunday World that he remains in an induced coma in Beaumont Hospital.
“There’s not much change [to his condition].
“He went for a scan today, and we’re waiting for an update.
“We won’t know the extent of it all until he’s out of the sedation.”
Leah has said that he is fighting for his life, and believes he was assaulted by two or more men.
The mother-of-two has expressed fears she will have to break the news of her father’s death to her own children, should he not recover from the attack.
She has pleaded with anyone who may have more information to come forward.
“The more it’s out there, we’re hoping the more information we’ll get.”
Gardai are also appealing for witnesses to the serious assault.
“Gardaí and emergency services responded to a reported assault near Annesley Bridge that occurred shortly after 6:00pm,” An Garda Siochana said in a statement.
“A man, aged in his 50s, was brought to the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital and has since been transferred to Beaumont Hospital, where he remains in a serious condition.
“A technical examination of the scene was conducted by the Divisional Scenes of Crime Unit. Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to contact them,” the statement continues.
“Any persons who were in the area between 5:30pm and 6:30pm and who may have video footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Clontarf Garda Station on 01 666 4800, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.”
