A man in his 20s has died in hospital following a serious assault in Kildare town on Sunday.

The man was found unresponsive on McGee Terrace at approximately 3.15am.

He was taken to Naas General Hospital after suffering head injuries.

He has since died.

The coroner has been notified, and a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

Gardaí said the results of this examination will determine the course of the investigation

They are appealing for witnesses and are asking anyone who was in the area between 2am and 4am on Sunday to contact them.
